About This Wine
Revello’s Barolo 2021 is a striking expression of Nebbiolo, drawn from the family’s holdings in Annunziata and La Morra. The calcareous clay soils and varied exposures yield fruit with both elegance and power, while careful vinification in stainless steel and aging for 24 months in French barriques (20% new) bring polish and finesse. This “classico” bottling captures the full spectrum of Revello’s terroirs: the supple, aromatic fruit of La Morra balanced by the firmer backbone of Serralunga, resulting in a wine that is complete, harmonious, and deeply evocative of Barolo tradition with a modern touch. The 2021 vintage has been widely praised, with James Suckling awarding 95 points for its precision, florality, and layered depth. Expect vivid aromas of violets, red cherries, and pomegranate, underscored by licorice and sweet spice. On the palate, it is taut yet generous, with bracing acidity, velvety tannins, and a long, savory finish. Already graceful in youth, it will reward patience over the next decade or more, evolving into a wine of profound complexity. This is Revello at its most expressive: refined, energetic, and crafted for both early charm and serious cellaring.
About Revello
Nestled in the hamlet of Annunziata in La Morra, Revello has built its reputation on some of the most esteemed vineyards in the Barolo region. Over generations, the family has gradually acquired prized plots such as Gattera, Conca, Giachini, Rocche dell’Annunziata, and Cerretta—each with its own character and history. These sites are worked by hand with a deep respect for tradition, where careful pruning, green harvests, and organic practices ensure that only the best fruit is carried into the cellar. The belief is simple yet profound: the foundation of great Barolo lies in the vineyard, where the natural gifts of the land are nurtured and refined with patience and respect. Inside the winery, the Revello family embraces a distinctly modernist approach to Barolo. Since the 1990s, under the influence of mentor Elio Altare, the estate has employed short macerations in roto-fermenters, native yeasts, and aging in French barriques. This style highlights purity of fruit, silky tannins, and early approachability, without compromising the depth and longevity that Nebbiolo can deliver. Their wines, often released as single-vineyard bottlings, are expressive and precise—each cru revealing a different facet of La Morra’s elegance and perfume, while maintaining the power and structure that allow these Baroli to age gracefully for decades. Today, the estate is in the hands of Elena and Simone Revello, who carry forward the family’s legacy with a blend of tradition and innovation. Their focus on sustainability in both vineyard and cellar ensures that Revello wines reflect not only the terroir but also a vision for the future of Barolo. Critics have praised their balance of finesse and intensity, with Antonio Galloni and James Suckling noting their consistent quality across vintages. From Dolcetto and Barbera to the flagship Barolo crus, Revello has established itself as one of La Morra’s most compelling voices—crafting wines that speak clearly of place, family, and a modern vision of Piedmont’s greatest appellation.
