About This Wine
Patrunale 2021 is Palamà ’s most personal interpretation of Primitivo, drawn from a tiny old-vine parcel in Cutrofiano. Here, the family lets the grapes hang longer on the vine, concentrating all the warmth and richness of Salento while maintaining a gentle freshness. The result is a wine with depth and generosity, but also surprising softness—round, fruity, and welcoming, perfect for those who shy away from heavy tannins yet still crave intensity. With only a handful of vintages ever produced, this is a rare cuvée that reflects both the difficulty and the beauty of working with Primitivo at its finest. In the glass, it reveals layers of dark berries, plum, and blueberry jam, lifted by subtle notes of spice, vanilla, and a touch of smokiness from barrique aging. The palate is rich yet smooth, with ripe fruit flavors carrying the wine, balanced by gentle acidity and just enough grip to keep it lively. The finish is long, warm, and elegant, leaving behind a memory of sweet spice and soft fruit. Patrunale is not only a showcase of Primitivo’s character but also a wine that invites pleasure—a Private Collection bottle made for those who want richness without austerity.
About Palama
Vinicola Palamà has been part of Salento’s landscape and culture for nearly a century, a family-run winery where the rhythm of the vineyards sets the pace of life. The land itself is generous yet demanding, with sun-drenched days and breezes from the nearby sea shaping grapes of remarkable character. Working with native varieties such as Negroamaro, Primitivo, Malvasia Nera, Malvasia Bianca, and Verdeca, the Palamà family tends their vines with the same devotion their grandparents once showed, pruning, training, and harvesting with a focus on balance and purity. Inside the winery, tradition and innovation meet with respect. The cellar, first built by Arcangelo in 1936, has evolved under the hands of Ninì and now Michele, who bring fresh vision without abandoning the roots of the estate. The work is patient and precise: careful fermentations, thoughtful blending, and constant attention to detail. Nothing is rushed, because the Palamà name is tied not only to wine, but to a way of life where effort and pride are poured into every bottle. The result is a collection of wines that carry the taste of Salento—warm, vibrant, and unmistakably authentic. They are wines that speak of the soil and the sun, of sacrifice and celebration, of generations who believed that true quality is born from patience and care. Whether it is a glass of Negroamaro full of depth and memory, or a fresh Verdeca alive with brightness, Vinicola Palamà invites you to taste not only a wine, but the story of a family and the land they call home.
