About This Wine
The Monferrato DOC Rosso “La Mora” 2020 is a refined blend of Barbera and Merlot, born from the clay, sand, and sandstone marl soils of Agliano Terme, one of Piedmont’s most expressive terroirs. Hand-harvested grapes are carefully destemmed and gently crushed before fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, preserving freshness and varietal character. The wine then matures for 12–14 months in French oak barriques (2.25 hL), gaining depth, complexity, and a supple texture that harmonizes the bright acidity of Barbera with the roundness of Merlot. In the glass, it reveals an intense ruby red with purple highlights, opening to aromas of ripe red berries laced with delicate spice. The palate is full-bodied yet balanced, showing persistence and elegance with smooth, gentle tannins that invite another sip. Both approachable in its youth and structured enough for short-term aging, this red reflects the marriage of tradition and modern craftsmanship that defines Il Falchetto’s style, making it a versatile companion for hearty pasta, roasted meats, and aged cheeses.
About Il Falchetto
Il Falchetto has long been recognized as one of the finest producers of Moscato d’Asti. Based in Santo Stefano Belbo, in the heart of Piedmont’s UNESCO-listed wine hills, the winery has built a reputation for crafting Moscato of remarkable purity and elegance. Their bottles regularly receive the coveted Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso, confirming their place among Italy’s best. Beyond critical acclaim, Il Falchetto’s wines have become favorites in markets around the world, with strong success in countries like China, where they are prized for their freshness, perfume, and outstanding value. The Forno family’s story goes back centuries, with records of their presence in Santo Stefano Belbo as far back as the 1600s. In 1940, Pietro Forno began bottling Moscato, marking the true beginning of the estate’s modern history. In the 1970s, his sons Natalino and Luigi introduced new techniques and expanded the vineyards, while always maintaining respect for the local traditions. Today, the winery is led by the brothers Giorgio, Fabrizio, and Adriano, who represent the fourth generation and continue to guide Il Falchetto with the same dedication to quality and innovation. The estate spans six properties across the provinces of Cuneo and Asti, in some of Piedmont’s most prized appellations, including Canelli DOCG for Moscato and Nizza DOCG for Barbera. Vineyard work is done by hand, with a focus on balance and precision to bring out the full character of the fruit. The result is a collection of wines that capture the personality of their land—refined, expressive, and honest—delivering both pedigree and accessibility. Il Falchetto’s philosophy has always been simple: to produce wines that speak of their origins while offering exceptional value to those who enjoy them.
