About This Wine
After more than a decade of careful cellaring, the Monferrato Rosso “La Mora” 2013 emerges as a testament to both Il Falchetto’s craftsmanship and the remarkable aging potential of this Barbera–Merlot blend. Born from the sandy, clay, and marl soils of Agliano Terme, the wine was hand-harvested, fermented in stainless steel, and refined for over a year in French oak barriques before resting patiently in bottle deep within the estate’s cellar. Now, having just been released, it reveals layers of nuance and maturity that only time can bestow, proving that this red was built not only for youthful vibrancy but also for graceful evolution. In the glass, the 2013 vintage offers a complex interplay of tertiary notes—dried cherry, plum compote, leather, and subtle tobacco—woven together with spice and gentle oak undertones. On the palate, the once-bright fruit has deepened into savory richness, while the tannins have softened into silk, giving the wine a round, elegant structure balanced by lingering acidity. Its persistence and harmony showcase how beautifully this wine ages, offering both depth and elegance that make it as compelling at the table today as it was energetic in its youth. This release is living proof that “La Mora” is not just a versatile Monferrato red, but also a cellar-worthy gem.
About Il Falchetto
Il Falchetto has long been recognized as one of the finest producers of Moscato d’Asti. Based in Santo Stefano Belbo, in the heart of Piedmont’s UNESCO-listed wine hills, the winery has built a reputation for crafting Moscato of remarkable purity and elegance. Their bottles regularly receive the coveted Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso, confirming their place among Italy’s best. Beyond critical acclaim, Il Falchetto’s wines have become favorites in markets around the world, with strong success in countries like China, where they are prized for their freshness, perfume, and outstanding value. The Forno family’s story goes back centuries, with records of their presence in Santo Stefano Belbo as far back as the 1600s. In 1940, Pietro Forno began bottling Moscato, marking the true beginning of the estate’s modern history. In the 1970s, his sons Natalino and Luigi introduced new techniques and expanded the vineyards, while always maintaining respect for the local traditions. Today, the winery is led by the brothers Giorgio, Fabrizio, and Adriano, who represent the fourth generation and continue to guide Il Falchetto with the same dedication to quality and innovation. The estate spans six properties across the provinces of Cuneo and Asti, in some of Piedmont’s most prized appellations, including Canelli DOCG for Moscato and Nizza DOCG for Barbera. Vineyard work is done by hand, with a focus on balance and precision to bring out the full character of the fruit. The result is a collection of wines that capture the personality of their land—refined, expressive, and honest—delivering both pedigree and accessibility. Il Falchetto’s philosophy has always been simple: to produce wines that speak of their origins while offering exceptional value to those who enjoy them.
