About This Wine
Champagne Fleury’s Robert Fleury 2013 is both a tribute and a masterpiece—a cuvée created in honor of the family’s grandfather, who first bottled the house’s wine in 1929. Produced only in the finest vintages, it embodies the richness of the Côte des Bar’s terroir and Fleury’s pioneering biodynamic philosophy. The 2013 harvest yielded fruit of great balance and aromatic intensity, drawn from 35-year-old vines rooted in clay-limestone soils. The cuvée assembles the full palette of the estate’s cépages—49% Pinot Noir, 22% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot Gris, and 9% Pinot Blanc—a rare and complex blend that celebrates diversity and tradition alike. In the cellar, craftsmanship honors ancestral methods. The wine ferments and ages in 228L Burgundian oak barrels, undergoes malolactic fermentation, and experiences its second fermentation under cork and staple (sous liège et agrafe), a demanding but expressive technique. With zero dosage, the wine speaks with purity, delivering power without adornment. In the glass, it reveals a luminous gold robe with fine, persistent effervescence. The bouquet is both complex and delicate: bright notes of grapefruit zest, and green apple mingle with candied ginger, saffron, roasted peach, and a subtle touch of acacia honey. On the palate, the attack is vivid and precise, layered with pear, apple, and citrus confit, before unfolding into pastry, toasted spice, and chalky minerality. A “millefeuille multisensoriel,” this wine is at once rich and airy, structured yet harmonious, with an extraordinarily long and elegant finish. It is a Champagne of depth and generosity.
About Champagne Fleury
Champagne Fleury stands as a true pioneer in the Côte des Bar, the southernmost part of the Champagne region. Established in 1895 in the village of Courteron, the estate has remained family-run for over four generations, continually blending tradition with innovation. In 1989, under the leadership of Jean-Pierre Fleury, the domaine became the first Champagne house to adopt biodynamic viticulture, fully committing to the practice by 1992. This courageous step not only marked a turning point for the family estate but also set a historic precedent for Champagne, inspiring many others to rethink their relationship with the land. With 15 hectares of vineyards rooted in the clay-limestone soils of the Kimmeridgian period, Fleury’s plantings are dominated by Pinot Noir, complemented by Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Meunier. These vines are cultivated according to the rhythms of nature and the cosmic calendar, a reflection of the estate’s deep respect for ecological balance and the interconnectedness of sky and earth. The resulting Champagnes are expressive, pure, and terroir-driven—wines that combine generosity of fruit with elegance, minerality, and vitality. Today, Champagne Fleury remains not only a benchmark grower in the region but also a symbol of how biodynamic principles can harmonize with the age-old traditions of Champagne, creating wines of both authenticity and soul.
