About This Wine
Champagne Fleury’s Cépages Blancs Brut Nature 2012 is a rare expression of the Côte des Bar’s terroir, drawing inspiration from the chalk-rich soils that echo the nearby Chablisienne landscape. Anchored in the slopes of Champraux and the venerable old vines of Valprune, the wine speaks of both power and finesse. The 2012 vintage is already regarded as one of the great years of Champagne—yielding wines of remarkable structure, energy, and longevity—and Fleury has harnessed that potential with precision. Farmed organically and biodynamically, the vines deliver fruit that bursts with vitality, transformed by craftsmanship into a cuvée of striking personality. This blanc de blancs is far from conventional, with 86% Chardonnay and 14% Pinot Blanc—the latter a rarity in Champagne but one that lends depth and exotic flair. Vinified entirely in oak barrels and aged under cork and staple (“sous agrafe”), the wine embraces tradition while pushing boundaries. Its brut nature style, with zero dosage, allows the limestone minerality and natural opulence of the fruit to shine unadorned. Fine, creamy bubbles carry aromas of roasted apple, floral pear, and lemon compote, unfolding into layers of pear, melon, and exotic fruits—papaya, mango, and roasted pineapple. On the palate, richness meets vivacity: quince, almond croissant, and stone fruit ride on a supple yet taut frame, finishing with a saline chalkiness and a whisper of woodland moss.
About Champagne Fleury
Champagne Fleury stands as a true pioneer in the Côte des Bar, the southernmost part of the Champagne region. Established in 1895 in the village of Courteron, the estate has remained family-run for over four generations, continually blending tradition with innovation. In 1989, under the leadership of Jean-Pierre Fleury, the domaine became the first Champagne house to adopt biodynamic viticulture, fully committing to the practice by 1992. This courageous step not only marked a turning point for the family estate but also set a historic precedent for Champagne, inspiring many others to rethink their relationship with the land. With 15 hectares of vineyards rooted in the clay-limestone soils of the Kimmeridgian period, Fleury’s plantings are dominated by Pinot Noir, complemented by Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Meunier. These vines are cultivated according to the rhythms of nature and the cosmic calendar, a reflection of the estate’s deep respect for ecological balance and the interconnectedness of sky and earth. The resulting Champagnes are expressive, pure, and terroir-driven—wines that combine generosity of fruit with elegance, minerality, and vitality. Today, Champagne Fleury remains not only a benchmark grower in the region but also a symbol of how biodynamic principles can harmonize with the age-old traditions of Champagne, creating wines of both authenticity and soul.
