About This Wine

Piemonte DOC Barbera Passito 2022 is an elegant and distinctive interpretation of Barbera, crafted by Cascina Binè using the traditional appassimento method. Hand-harvested grapes are carefully laid in wooden crates and left to dry for 30–45 days before pressing, concentrating their flavors and aromas. After fermentation, the wine is aged for 6–8 months in wood, allowing it to develop further depth and harmony. The result is a brilliant ruby-red wine with violet reflections, offering a bouquet that combines the classic freshness of Barbera—red berries and rose petals—with richer notes of cherry preserve and soft vanilla. On the palate, this Passito delivers both richness and vibrancy, as the grape’s naturally high acidity balances the concentrated texture, ensuring the wine remains fresh and never cloying. Layers of juicy red fruit mingle with floral and sweet spice notes, finishing with elegance and poise. Sophisticated yet approachable, it is a wine that bridges intensity with drinkability. Perfect alongside aged cheeses, delicate pastries, or chocolate-based desserts, it highlights the versatility of Barbera in a style that is indulgent but always balanced, making it a true expression of the Binè family’s craftsmanship and vision.

About Cascina Bine

Cascina Binè is a small, family-run winery rooted in the rolling hills of Novi Ligure, in the heart of Piedmont’s GAVI DOCG zone. Here, only eleven villages are permitted to grow the grapes for Gavi, and Binè’s vineyards lie among the very best exposures—eleven hectares of contiguous vines facing south and southwest across two gentle hills. Luciano and Michelangelo Ghio, together with Luciano’s wife Rosy Carlevaro, have nurtured this land since the early 2000s, and today their sons Niccolò and Lorenzo bring fresh energy to the estate. The combination of continental climate, cooling sea breezes from the Ligurian coast just 30 kilometers away, and mineral-rich soils creates an exceptional terroir, perfect for producing wines of character and finesse. What makes Binè truly special is the personality of its vineyards, including the striking vigna rotonda—a small circular plot planted in a radial pattern like an amphitheater, which has become the estate’s symbol. From these vines come wines that are expressive, vibrant, and deeply connected to the land. The family’s philosophy is simple yet profound: respect nature, embrace tradition, and use innovation thoughtfully, always allowing time to play its role. This respect for rhythm and patience translates into wines that speak with clarity—wines that are aromatic, precise, and elegant, yet approachable and full of life. Though still something of a hidden gem, Cascina Binè has built a reputation for crafting wines that deliver exceptional quality at remarkable value. Their GAVI DOCG bottlings capture the freshness and minerality that the denomination is celebrated for, while other labels, such as their Barbera, show the depth and generosity of Piedmontese reds. Each bottle carries the stamp of authenticity and care, offering both immediate enjoyment and the ability to surprise with age. In every glass, there is a sense of place, of family tradition, and of quiet excellence—a reminder that some of the most memorable wines are born not from grand estates, but from those who work humbly and passionately with the land they love.
